Alternative Technology to Distribute Xirrus’ Groundbreaking Wireless LAN Array in the United States and Canada
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., April 24, 2005 – Xirrus, Inc., creator of the next-generation Wireless LAN Array, is announcing that Alternative Technology has signed a distribution agreement to carry the Xirrus product family. The relationship increases Xirrus’ coverage throughout the United States and extends the company’s sales and marketing reach into Canada. In turn, distributing Xirrus’ products reinforces Alternative Technology’s position as a leading source of the industry’s most innovative technology and wireless solutions.
Alternative Technology distributes leading-edge solutions through a network of Value Added Resellers (VARs) in the United States and Canada, placing a premium on leveraging advanced new products that raise the bar for performance and return-on-investment. “We’re always looking for ways to use innovative solutions to accelerate the profitability of our resellers and provide them with the tools to solve real world business problems,” says Tom Zorn, Executive Vice President and co-founder, Alternative Technology. “With the WLAN Array, Xirrus not only equips us to deliver more Wi-Fi capacity and coverage at lower cost, but to overcome the technological constraints inherent with existing architectures.”
By vastly exceeding the capacity, coverage and cost-performance of current Wi-Fi solutions, Xirrus’ next-generation Wi-Fi architecture helps enterprises achieve the greatest cost-performance today while positioning themselves for emerging applications such as voice over WLAN (VoWLAN).
Xirrus’ Wireless LAN Array integrates the functionality of a WLAN switch and up to sixteen 802.11a/b/g access points in a single device to deliver the industry’s first Gigabit-class capacity (864 Mbps), as well as four times the coverage area achieved with competing architectures. By simultaneously using up to 16 non-overlapping channels, the WLAN Array overcomes performance issues that commonly arise as existing architectures attempt to scale with demand. Furthermore, the WLAN Array employs a high-gain, Multi-sector Antenna System that provides an extended coverage area.
Along with a superior Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) model for enterprise customers, participation in Xirrus’ PartnerAdvantage Program gives distributors, VARs and integrators the sales, marketing and technical support needed to accelerate and simplify the sale, deployment and maintenance of WLANs. Alternative Technology’s successful track record among early adopters of Wi-Fi technology in the education, healthcare and manufacturing verticals will further promote migration of enterprises to the next-generation WLAN.
“It’s rewarding to have attracted another high-caliber distribution partner supporting our channel program so quickly,” says Dirk Gates, CEO of Xirrus. “Alternative Technology’s focus on providing innovative technology solutions is indicative of the channel partners we are focused on and, coupled with the advantages delivered by the Wireless LAN Array, will fuel the market momentum rapidly building in enterprise Wi-Fi.”
Alternative will carry Xirrus’ complete family of WLAN Arrays, Centralized Management Platform (XM-3300) and the Remote Power System (XP-3100) available May 27, 2005.
