Now available: Remote Desktop Suite Premium 64 bit, the world’s first complete server-based computing solution for 64 bit Windows
(Berlin, September 2005) ThinPrint, the software manufacturer specialized in print management, has introduced the world’s first complete solution for setting up a total server based computing environment under 64-bit Windows. The Remote Desktop Suite Premium 64 bit promises high-performance remote access, up to 70% more users per server, 80% less network load during printing, and direct support of 32-bit printer drivers. As premium version of the renowned Remote Desktop Suite series, it also optimally supports network printers and thin clients. The ThinPrint software solution includes all necessary components including Microsoft Terminal Service licenses for turning a Windows 2003 server into a complete 64-bit server based computing environment.
“We are proud that we are the first in the world to have been able to develop a 64-bit server-based computing solution to market readiness,” states Carsten Mickeleit, Managing Director of ThinPrint. “With this solution, businesses setting up a centralized IT architecture can profit from a much higher number of users per server with the 64-bit platform and at the same time, enjoy high-performance print support.”
Print support has always been the Achilles’ heel of Terminal Server and Citrix installations. The issue becomes more severe under 64-bit Windows because only specific 64-bit printer drivers can be used; these first have to be developed for many older printer models. The Remote Desktop Suite Premium 64 bit solves this problem with DRIVER FREE PRINTING technology, which makes it unnecessary to install printer drivers on the server. It is therefore possible to continue using 32-bit drivers for older printers.
An increasing number of manufacturers of server based computing solutions are moving the optimization of print management to the center of their efforts because otherwise, the differences in the high-performance of their solutions decrease in the eyes of the user. With Microsoft’s announcement of again considerably improving the Terminal Services in Windows Longhorn, these differences will become even smaller, or disappear completely.
“Right now, our print management technology is about 2-3 years ahead of our competitors. Things that others are just announcing has already been fully developed by ThinPrint and in productive deployment a thousand times over. With the 64-bit variants and our current development pipeline, we will greatly increase that head start,” continues Carsten Mickeleit. “Our customers can therefore rely on the fact that ThinPrint .print will be the perfect – probably the only intelligent – extension of Windows Longhorn Terminal Services.”
The Remote Desktop Suite Premium 64 bit is now available worldwide from more than 500 ThinPrint partners. Estimated street price for an environment with 20 users is around 4,000 euros. “Extension Packs” are available for adding 5 more users or end devices each. In addition to the 64-bit version, there are two product versions for 32bit Windows on the market. Remote Desktop Suite Standard is ideal for setting up a server-based computing architecture in small to medium-sized businesses; the Remote Desktop Suite Premium is geared toward medium-sized to large businesses who want to use additional protocols
