HP

Operating Systems

Thin client computing delivers lower costs, better manageability, and greater security.  And these benefits are greatly enhanced through the software that powers HP thin client devices. It’s HP’s focus on software that has enabled their customers to realize the greatest benefits from HP’s server-based computing solutions, including:

  • OPEN, INDUSTRY-STANDARD SOFTWARE TECHNOLOGIES that make it easier to integrate and manage devices in a complex IT environment.
  • CROSS-PLATFORM SOFTWARE so updates can be accomplished independently: customers can upgrade devices without changing software, and upgrade software without changing devices.
  • INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS that reflect unique business requirements, ensuring that devices behave exactly the way customers want them to behave, and that their server-based solution is properly integrated from end to end.
  • GLOBAL REACH that delivers consistently excellent customer service with locally available engineering resources.

With HP, customers have the choice and flexibility of cross-platform software for thin clients, protecting their investments in technology and minimizing the effects of obsolescence. No matter which HP thin client they choose, your customer can select either a Linux or Windows operating system. If their future requirements change, a different operating system can run on the same devices, or the same software can be run on different HP thin client devices.

Why HP Linux?

HP Linux is the most cost-efficient operating system available; and with its modest flash and RAM requirements, customers can stretch their savings even farther using thin client devices. HP Linux is customizable and powerful. Only HP delivers Linux to end users with an easy-to-use, PC-style graphical desktop interface, so usage is familiar with no training required. With flexible, open-source Linux, your customers will have greater development control of applications and drivers, plus inexpensive integration capabilities.

Why Windows CE?

HP thin clients with Windows CE use the familiar desktop interface without the high cost of a full-featured Windows XPe operating system. The right set of features, combined with Internet Explorer, makes thin clients powered by Windows CE an efficient solution.

Why Windows XP Embedded?

HP thin clients with Microsoft Windows XPe deliver the power of Windows XP in a thin client.  With 32-bit Windows compatibility for local applications and a full-featured local Internet Explorer browser, your end users will have all the capabilities they require.

Why Windows XPe Plus?

HP Windows XPe Plus is used with HP Image Manager. This allows customers to stream a fuller featured Windows operating system to their thin client with an expanded set of device drivers, additional language support, and executables that allow one to view and use a myriad of applications.
